IELTS Speaking Tips – Positive Expression is necessary, and IELTS Speaking test gives you the opportunity to speak for longer on a topic. You will be given a task card on a particular topic, and this will include key points that you should talk about. You will be also given one minute to prepare to talk about the topic on the task card. A pencil and paper will be provided for you to make notes. You will have to talk for 1-2 minutes, and then the examiner will ask you one or two questions on the same topic. Part 2 takes 3-4 minutes in total.

How to practise

Try to stay away from very simple expressions when talking about like or dislike. For example, say I like or I enjoy or I dislike. And it’s really important to try to say it a different way to demonstrate to the tester that you’re not just repeating what they’re saying.
Sometimes your answer can be in the negative. But usually it’s much easier to talk in the positive and to use vocabulary in the positive. So even if your answer is not specifically true, it doesn’t really matter. It’s usually easier to talk in the positive when answering so try to do that.
